Italian stage, screen and TV actress Marina Malfatti died at the Hospital Sant'Andrea in Rome June 8th. She was 83. Her obituary from Italian newspapers states she was born in Florence,. Italy on April 25, 1933. The date of 1940 seen in many pre viously stated sites is wrong. At 17 she enrolled in Paris at Cours d'Art Dramatique, school of acting founded by René Simon.  Two years later, on her return to Italy, she obtained a scholarship for the Experimental Center of Cinematography and then debuted in the cinema, at first in small roles. She was then discovered by director Arnold Foa for the stage which hence began a rewarding career in dramatic roles. Marina was the widow of Italy's U.N. Ambassador Umberto La Rocca [1920-2011]. They were married in 1980.

À 17 ans, elle s'inscrit à Paris au Cours Simon. Deux ans plus tard, à son retour en Italie, elle obtient une bourse d'études et fait ses débuts au cinéma dans de petits rôles.

Au théâtre a été «découverte» par Arnoldo Foa qui la fait jouer dans Deux sur la balançoire de William Gibson, dans un rôle qui avait été celui de Lea Massari. Ainsi a commencé une carrière jalonnée de rôles à la fois brillants et spectaculaires.

Elle joue pour la première fois à la télévision en 1966 avec la version italienne des enquêtes du Commissaire Maigret (avec Gino Cervi) dans l'épisode L'Ombre chinoise, suivi par la version de la RAI TV du "Chien des Baskerville" aux côtés de Nando Gazzolo. En 1974, elle joue dans un remake pour la télévision de Malombra, adapté de Fogazzaro et dirigé par Diego Fabbri. Ce travail lui apporte la populatié et lui permet d'alterner entre l'activité théâtrale et la télévision.

Au cinéma elle a pris part à une époque particulière du cinéma italien, caractérisé, toujours dans les années soixante-dix, par les films d'horreur, avec un fond démoniaque : Marina Malfatti a joué dans des films tels que L'appel de la chair, Sept orchidées tachées de sang, La dame rouge tua sept fois, Un fiocco nero per Deborah, Le Faune de marbre et d'autres, et est devenue une icône du genre.

Depuis les années quatre-vingt, elle s'est principalement consacrée au théâtre, alternant personnages classiques (Electra, Lysistrata) et caractères modernes, parfois dans des œuvres écrites spécialement pour elle tels que La Ceinture d'Alberto Moravia et D'autres corps de Joseph Manfridi. En 1990, elle commence une collaboration artistique avec Luigi Squarzina et joue des pièces de Pirandello, Shaw, Goldoni, Cocteau. (Wikipédia)

Marina Malfatti, an Italian actress known best in the U.S. for the 1971 films “The Night Evelyn Came Out of the Grave” and “The Fourth Victim”

Marina Malfatti, an Italian actress known best in the U.S. for the 1971 films “The Night Evelyn Came Out of the Grave” and “The Fourth Victim,” died June 8, 2016, according to multiple Italian news sources. She was 76.

Malfatti was known best for appearing in Italian horror films of the 1970s.

She was born Marisa Malfatti April 25, 1940, in Florence, Italy, and later changed the spelling of her first name to Marina. When she was 17, she moved to Paris, France, to study drama for two years. She then returned to Italy and started her acting career in mostly small parts in film and the theater.

In 1960, Italian actor Aroldo Foà picked Malfatti as his co-star for the play “Two for the Seesaw” by the American playwright William Gibson. Gibson also wrote the Tony Award-winning play “The Miracle Worker.”

Malfatti’s other notable credits include the films “A Black Ribbon for Deborah,” (1974) which starred the American actor Gig Young; “Seven Blood-Stained Orchids” (1972); “The Return of Clint the Stranger” (1972); “The Red Queen Kills Seven Times” 1972); and a 1992 stage production of “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?”

Malfatti also appeared on several Italian television miniseries and movies before retiring in the mid-1990s.

Malfatti was married to Umberto La Rocca, a diplomat, who preceded her in death.
