Empty Voice dubbing

Message  Tom Betts Mar 17 Nov - 20:52

Certain actors, such as Tomas Milian, wanted to dub their own films and had it in their contracts. Other actors stipulated they be paid extra for dubbing the film. Therefore dubbing studios were set up all over Italy and Spain to dub the films. As their popularity in creased dubbing studios sprung up all over Europe. This gave added work to voice actors and many made a good living doing voice dubbing. Certain actors became the Spanish, Italian, French or German voices of stars such as Terence Hill, Bud Spencer, Clint Eastwood, Lee Van Cleef and Franco Nero.

This allowed the films to be shot silently or the various actors saying their lines in their native languages. Some even just mouthed numbers instead of lines of dialogue. The voice dubbers had the duty of matching as closely as possible the actors mouth movements to the language being dubbed. Not an easy task. That's why films are different in different languages and why many fans will watch the original language film and read the subtitles in their own native tongue.

There were so many westerns being filmed during the 1960s and 1970 many actors didn't have the time to dub their voices to a completed film because they were now involved in a new film. Also some actors voices didn't fit their faces and were not deep enough so dubbers were used in their places. Sometimes dubbers didn't have the looks wanted for films but sometimes appeared in cameo or character roles.

A book could be written on dubbing alone as many big name actors often dubbed other films when they were not involved in making movies. This gave them additional income and something to do between films.

Tom Betts a répondu a ta question.
